
Rules Hacked
Rules Hacked is an old university project I worked on about 3 years ago. I quickly fixed it up so it’s playable again, but keep in mind it’s still a prototype / demo.
The idea: it’s a metroidvania where you can “hack” almost anything, platforms, doors, and even your own character. Hacking takes you into a matrix-like dimension where you solve quick challenges to change the rules of the world.
Originally built for a 2 day game jam and later expanded into a 2-month Metroidvania project, developed by a team of two.
I didnt particularly optimize the project for WebGL, so if you are experience lag, download the game instead !

Always fun when dying or jsut closing and repoening the game will delete all progress.
"All unsaved progress will be lost"?
How about you implement any kind of save system in the first place? >:-(
There is a save system, you need to hack a computer to save the game :)
still should fix it so that if you just barel finish the hack and press E to leave the "matrix", you dont arrive back in the real world but you character is god knows where (definitely NOT on the screen at least) and you cant do anything than to reload. meaning that hack you jsut barely managed? lost and back to the save computer quite a while ago...

Hm, jsut finished the game, yet didnt manage to get into the room on the left.
you know that roundaway that starts at the top goes around the left and comes back out at the bottom, where you get the first spped upgrade?
the room basically surrounded by that, I dont get in there.
like you enter from the right, use normal 3 gravity to fall through the first stone blockade.
then there is a big hole with 2 layers of rocks that I jsut cant manage to destroy.
Like I have size 3 guy, gravity at like (yeah I got the upgrade past the red door. got that was hell to get!).
yet despite max gravity and max size, the stones dont budge.
and, if I dont misremember , there wasnt anywhere else I havent been to already.
Also have the speed thing where spped can go up to 4 (which I have found no use for )
Edit: okay, missed the next size upgrade. which let to a time upgrade.yep, that would have made the red door way easier if we had it.
still only at 88% though, really goota search for scraps now...
Thanks for playing through the whole game ! Its definitely a bit rough around the edges, it was a short uni project from way back I just fixed up quickly and uploaded now.
The game was actually maxed out at 88%, I didn't realize it until you mentioned it right now, so I went ahead and fixed it, now the counter does reach 100%, you'll need to load into your save and save again for it to update. The counter used to only count upgrades found (but was counting one too many), now I made it also count the hearts you found.
Anyways, thanks again for all your valuable feedbacks, this prototype was actually never play tested before
